Georgia Mother Charged After 2-Year-Old Fatally Shot at Kissimmee Airbnb

KISSIMMEE, FL — Georgia mother is facing a felony charge following the shooting death of her 2-year-old son at an Airbnb in Kissimmee earlier this month.

According to the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, homicide detectives have completed their investigation into the July 12 shooting death of 2-year-old Brayden Tennyson. Detectives have forwarded a third-degree felony charge of culpable negligence to the State Attorney’s Office against 37-year-old Shakelia Tennyson of Louisville, Georgia.

Investigators said the family had traveled from Louisville, Georgia, to Osceola County and was staying at an Airbnb on Scrapbook Street. Shortly before 4 p.m., family members were outside the vehicle and had not yet entered the home when a 4-year-old child found an unsecured, unholstered loaded handgun inside the vehicle.

Authorities said the 4-year-old discharged the firearm, striking Brayden. Deputies and emergency crews responded to the scene and provided life-saving measures before the toddler was transported to Arnold Palmer Hospital, where he later died.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Shakelia Tennyson returned to Georgia last week and has been notified of the pending charge. Under Florida law, the charge alleges she left a loaded firearm within the reach or easy access of a minor, resulting in the child’s death.

The investigation has been completed, and the case has been forwarded to the State Attorney’s Office for prosecution. Nothing further at this time.
