Last American polio survivor in an iron lung dies at 78

SHAWNEE, Okla. (KFOR) – The last polio survivor in America to depend on an iron lung has died.

Martha Ann Lillard, 78, invited Nexstar’s KFOR to her Shawnee, Oklahoma, home three weeks ago because she was desperate for help with repairs.

She lived more than 70 years at the mercy of that machine.
