baseless. The 1982 recession was real — unemployment hit 10.8%. Iran-Contra was real — arms sold to Iran around an embargo, the proceeds routed to Nicaraguan rebels. The press wrote of lies, of a presidency out of control, of impeachment. There were real crises, real scandals, real mistakes.
