The Birthday Cake That Taught Me a Lesson About Family and Forgiveness

I told her there was no place for her and that the night was meant for immediate family. She didn’t argue. She simply placed the cake on the table, wished me a happy birthday, and quietly left. Before stepping out, though, she asked that we at least share the cake later. I assumed she just wanted attention and thought nothing more of it.
