all eyes turned toward me.

I was single.

I had a stable job.

And apparently, that made me the obvious choice.

But it wasn’t obligation that made me say yes.

It was love.

I looked at those frightened little boys and knew I couldn’t let them feel abandoned again.

So I became their guardian.
