I slowly bent down and picked up one of the fragments, examining it more closely. The texture felt chalky and dry between my fingers, but then I noticed something unexpected — a faint sweet smell that felt strangely familiar. I paused, brought it closer, and suddenly the truth became obvious. It was not anything dangerous at all. The mysterious pieces were simply old white chocolate that had fallen beneath the bed weeks earlier and changed texture over time. The powdery appearance came from chocolate bloom, something completely harmless that happens as candy ages. What I had mistaken for something alarming was nothing more than a forgotten snack hidden under a teenager’s bed. Relief rushed over me so quickly that I laughed at myself out loud, feeling both grateful and slightly embarrassed by how far my imagination had traveled in such a short time.
