I Came Home From Overseas Expecting to See My 1969 Corvette Waiting

When you come home from a long absence you expect something from the people you come home to, not a parade, not anything excessive, but some acknowledgment that the absence was real and that the return matters. A welcome home is three syllables. It costs nothing. They had neither offered it.
