worked as a chaplain in an emergency room in Philadelphia before moving to Iowa and taking up a position in the Des Moines Area Religious Council, a community aid network. “I got to be a pastor to the whole community,” she says. “There’s just a lot of common ground that we have, even if people have different beliefs or different perspectives.”
