Andre Charles, Alberto’s brother and Zapata’s son, said his mother had just turned 53. He flew in last Friday to to celebrate the Fourth of July and his mother’s birthday.
“We had a good night with his mom,” he said. “She had cake and everything.”
Less than 24 hours later, the home was engulfed in flames.
